On January 13, the Center for Coastal Studies aerial surveillance team saw two endangered right whales in Cape Cod Bay—the first right whales of the season.

The whales were an adult of unknown sex and age and a juvenile female born in 2015.

North Atlantic right whales visit Cape Cod Bay every winter and spring to feed on rich blooms of zooplankton. The current estimated population of North Atlantic right whales is just 400 individuals.
