The Martha’s Vineyard Times reports that Chilmark, MA, police, Massachusetts State Troopers and Massachusetts Environmental Police recently teamed up to nab a fisherman who was illegally harvesting horseshoe crabs in Menemsha Pond, which was closed to the harvest of the ancient crustaceans.

Mitchell Pachico of Vineyard Haven, 27, was caught harvesting crabs from a small rowboat. According to the Times, he told the officers that he had received misinformation and thought the season was open. Pachico’s catch of some 229 crabs was released.
