Fishing Vessel Grounds Off Portland, Maine
February 21, 2011
Coast Guard crews are monitoring a fishing vessel that ran aground near Portland’s Danford Cove on Saturday, February 19, 2011.
The 4 crewmembers aboard the fishing vessel Rachel T made it to shore safely after running aground at approximately 4:45 a.m.
Coast Guard watchstanders from Sector Northern New England received notification from the vessel’s captain that the vessel ran aground on the beach.
A 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Station South Portland, along with the Maine Marine Patrol and Cape Elizabeth Fire Department, responded. Crews were unable to assist from the sea due to the shallow water.
A pollution and salvage company have been working on scene to secure the vessel and will attempt to re-float the vessel at high tide. There are no signs of pollution.
