Fishing Vessel, Tanker Collide off Martha’s Vineyard

No injuries were reported when a 70-foot fishing vessel Edna May out of Tiverton, RI, and a 605-foot petroleum tanker Iver Prosperity collided on January 27 some 25 nautical miles south of Martha’s Vineyard.

The tanker was inbound to Providence with a load of fuel when the collision occurred at about 8:10 p.m., but at-sea inspection found that no serious damage had occurred and that no fuel had been spilled.

No word was given on the cause of the collision, which is being investigated by the Coast Guard.

An 87-foot patrol boat escorted the fishing vessel to Tiverton.
