Review: FLIR First Mate II Night Vision Camera with Instalert

FLIR Systems’ next generation of First Mate handheld thermal night vision cameras has the same thermal imaging performance as the bigger FLIR handhelds, but also comes with automated image processing feature (Instalert) that highlights the strongest heat signatures in the image in red, alerting boaters to people who have fallen overboard or hazards along the way.

Compact, easy to use, and lightweight, First Mate II models are available in 240 x 180 or 320 x 240 resolutions and have a wide variety of lens options. They also have long battery life, a rugged, all-weather design, and some models can plug into an external monitor for greater flexibility.

Cost:

  • First Mate II MS224: $1,999
  • First Mate II MS324: $2,999
