Funding Approved to Improve Health of Green Hill Pond, RI

South County Independent: Green Hill Pond is set to undergo the first step of a project aimed at improving its water quality.

The [South Kingstown, RI*] Town Council Sept. 25 approved providing $25,000 to community group Friends of Green Hill Pond to begin field work at the pond, most of which lies in South Kingstown, with the rest in Charlestown. The focus will be on whether dredging represents a viable means of improving the flow of water in the pond.

“Our aim is to reduce the high bacteria that today, and the last 23 years, have prevented shellfishing in Green Hill Pond, basically making shellfish in Green Hill Pond inedible or unsafe to eat,” said Dennis Bowman, representing the Friends group.
