Correction: Since this post was made, New England Boating has learned that the funding campaign for the Tall Ship Providence was shut down.

On January 27, the Tall Ship Providence was toppled over during Winter Storm Juno at the Newport Shipyard, and suffered severe damages. While insurance will likely cover most of the damages, the ship’s owners are launching a GoFundMe campaign to maintain momentum as the repairs are made.

A recent press announcement contained the following explanation for the funding drive: “There are things insurance does not cover [such as] months of opportunity and profit gain for the ship as she [is repaired], as well as the need to continue generating funds for the development of even stronger programming in educational, sail training, historical tours, leisure and entertainment.”
