Funds Approved for Great Bay, NH, Nitrogen Study

SeacoastOnline: The Town Council is on board with a study to examine the release of nitrogen into Great Bay. Councilors hope the study will aid in receiving a less stringent permitted limit from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the nitrogen being discharged from the town’s wastewater treatment plant.

According to Water and Sewer Superintendent Sean Greig, the towns of Portsmouth, Dover, Rochester, and Exeter have already pooled funds to begin the study, being undertaken by University of New Hampshire. The Town Council on Wednesday approved the expenditure of up to $50,000 as Newmarket’s contribution.
