Graves Lighthouse Owner Battling Property Tax Issue

The owner of Graves Lighthouse off Boston Harbor is locked in a legal battle over property taxes levied by the town of Hull.

David Wallace, who bought the lighthouse at auction for $933,888 in 2013, claims that a title assessment conducted by the Coast Guard shows that the property is not located within any municipality. However, Hull officials contend that 19th Century maps show Graves Island as being within town boundaries.

Since taking ownership of the property, Wallace has been restoring and upgrading the lighthouse and its nearby oil house, turning it into a livable space.
