A commercial fishermen’s group is pushing to have Narcan included in the standard first-aid kits of commercial fishing vessels in Massachusetts, according to SouthCoast Today. They also want crew members to be trained on how to recognize a drug overdose and how to treat it.

Roughly 40 Gloucester fishermen received training on March 31 on how to recognize an overdose and administer Narcan at Endicott College, and similar training has already taken place with fishing crews in New Bedford.

The Fishing Partnership Support Services, a non-profit organization, has been hosting training sessions with fishermen in both ports.
