Hampton Beach Polar Plunge Raises $500K for Special Olympics
February 8, 2012
SeacoastOnline: “A penguin, a man in drag and Elvis dove into the frigid ocean” might sound like the set-up to a joke, but it is actually an accurate description of Sunday’s Penguin Plunge at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
More than 700 people participated in the 13th annual Penguin Plunge fundraiser for Special Olympics New Hampshire. Turnout was slightly higher than in 2011, with this year’s participants raising $508,692 for the organization. According to Rob Porreca, director of communications and grants with Special Olympics N.H., combined with Saturdays’ high school plunge, $688,300 was raised over the weekend.
