Historic Little Compton Catboat Moved
September 24, 2014
EastBayRI.com: Two men, one a shipwright and the other a millwright, used skids and rollers to move a work of art — a very unusual 164-year old, 18’ catboat — to a new home last week.
The vessel is the Peggotty, and it is about as precious a part of [Little Compton’s] artistic and cultural history as exists. From 1906 to 1931 the former catboat ferry served as the studio for Little Compton’s renowned artist and craftsman Sidney Burleigh (1853-1931).
