Hognose Snake Spotted Off Cape Cod
August 11, 2018
The Cape Cod Times reports that an eastern hognose snake was recently spotted by passengers aboard a whale watch vessel some 1 1/2 miles north of Provincetown, MA.
Initially, the snake was presumed to be an eel, but closer examination revealed it to be a hognose, which are native to Cape Cod.
A biologist interviewed for the piece surmised that the snake may have sought saltwater in order to cool off, only to be swept offshore by the current.
