Humminbird 898c SI Sounder/Plotter
August 11, 2010
Humminbird’s 800 Series of fishfinders, which were introduced in February, are all about giving the user more choices. The series includes the 898c SI Combo ($1,500), which features a 7-inch display (480V x 800H pixel matrix) and Side-Imaging Sonar that delivers detailed “photo-like” views of the bottom out to 240 feet on either side of the boat.
The 898c also incorporates SwitchFire sonar selection, which allows the user to choose the mode best suited to the fishing conditions, method or environment. Max Mode provides highly detailed images of the bottom, baitfish (including plankton) and the thermocline. It’s so sensitive that individual lures can be tracked onscreen. Clear Mode filters through the sonar returns to select for larger fish and structure, providing a clear, uncluttered screen. This mode is designed for rough or shallow conditions, or to reduce clutter in the water column.
The 800 Series comes preloaded with Navionics ContourXD cartography, which includes depth-contour lines, lights/markers, and even major roads and interstates. Optional Navionics cartography, including Platinum, Gold, HotMaps and HotMaps Premium, is also available.
Other key features of the 800 Series include programmable presets for one-button view changes, dual SD slots that allow recording of screen data, 500 watts RMS standard (4,000 watts peak-to-peak), water temp reading and 50-channel external WAAS GPS.
