Hy-Line Boats Still Lack WiFi
June 18, 2012
Nantucket Inquirer & Mirror: For the several thousand people who traveled between Nantucket and the mainland by boat over Memorial Day weekend, their enjoyment of mobile devices like smartphones and iPads was greatly determined by which boatline they happened to be on.
As it has been for several years now, riders on the Steamship Authority’s vessels were able to use their wireless devices practically without interruption, thanks in large part to an expensive “point to point” antenna system the SSA installed in 2007. The Hy-Line doesn’t have such a system—yet—and service on its boats is virtually nonexistent.
