Injured Block Island Seal Bears Mysterious Wound

Block Island Times: A badly injured female gray seal, dubbed Alberta by her island rescuers, is in the care of specialists at Mystic Marinelife Aquarium after having beached herself on Block Island’s rocky southern shore. She had a large gash surrounded by puncture wounds near her tail.
The seal is 1 of an estimated 120 that winter along Block Island’s shores before heading north as local waters warm. Beach walkers saw she was in trouble, and specially trained island residents responded, removing her from the beach and putting her on the Block Island Ferry on her way to Mystic, Connecticut.
