Issues Arise in Raising of Sunken Gloucester Dragger

The city [of Gloucester] and the Coast Guard on Friday [Nov. 18] took their first shot at floating the Blue Ocean fishing boat from just off Niles Beach in advance of scuttling the 54’ wooden dragger, but quickly ran into problems.

“We determined we’re not going to be able to float it,” said Gloucester Harbormaster T.J. Ciarmetaro. “The whole starboard side is just too flooded. Now we’ve got to go back to the drawing board and figure out our next option. What we don’t want is it breaking up and ending up on the beach.”
