J-Boats to Compete in Newport, Rhode Island, Regatta

Projo.com: Three enormous and glamorous yachts, one of which was the challenger in the 1930 America’s Cup race in Newport, are traveling to the City by the Sea this summer for a competitive regatta in an event race organizers say is a return to the history of Newport and the J-Class sailboats.
Just 10 of the massive J-Class boats were built between 1930 and 1937. That was back in the days when aluminum was brand new, well before the carbon-fiber boats of today, says Brad Read, executive director of Sail Newport, and among those in Rhode Island who on Wednesday announced the regatta’s decision to sail in Newport.
