Cape Cod Times: Rescuers freed a young humpback whale Sunday from fishing gear after an 11-hour effort from Provincetown to Plymouth, according to the Center for Coastal Studies.

The 30’ whale’s chance of survival improved after the center’s entanglement team cut away the fishing gear, according to Scott Landry, who heads the center’s marine animal entanglement response team. The amount of gear wrapped in the whale’s mouth and the estimated time the whale was tied up means the animal still “has a lot of work to do in healing,” Landry said.
