Kayaker Rescued on Lake Champlain
August 13, 2014
Coast Guard rescue crews from Station Burlington, Vermont, rescued a kayaker in distress on Lake Champlain on Tuesday, August 12.
Watchstanders at the station received a report from the Ferry Valcour of a distressed kayaker caught in 20-knot winds and rough seas near North Beach. The ferry was unable to assist because of shallow water, so Station Burlington launched a rescue crew aboard a 26’ response boat small.
The crew arrived on scene, recovered the kayaker, and brought him safely back to Station Burlington. The kayaker did not require any medical treatment.
“He was well prepared and wearing a lifejacket,” said Seaman Zane England, a watchstander at Station Burlington. “We got to him quickly in this case – but in the event of a long search, having the right safety gear is often the difference between life and death.”
