Kemp’s Ridley Turtles Arrive at Buzzards Bay Care Facility
December 7, 2012
The first Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles have arrived at the National Marine Life Center facility in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. The 8 turtles were stranded in November on Cape Cod beaches after suffering from a form of severe hypothermia that impacts these cold-blooded reptiles as the water starts to chill.
They were rescued by volunteers and staff at Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary then transported to the turtle rehab staff at the New England Aquarium, where they received emergency care. Over several weeks, the turtles were gradually warmed and began to swim and eat.
The Center’s staff has named the turtles and provided photos and profiles of each one on its website. Just CLICK HERE.
