SeacoastOnline: The Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce is offering a new program this year to welcome the 15,000 people who stop in the town via cruise ships and buses.

“We’re coming into ship season,” said Jim Fitzgerald, president of the chamber.

Anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 people come into Kennebunkport from the beginning of September through the middle of October, he said, and the chamber is welcoming those visitors through the new Adopt-A-Ship program.

Thirty local businesses have signed on to participate in the program, Fitzgerald said, and will offer discounts to ship and bus passengers. Businesses will also “adopt a ship,” greeting passengers when they arrive, he said.
