Kittery Considers Rescue Boat Purchase

In the wake of a water rescue off Gerrish Island on June 6, Kittery, Maine, town officials are considering the purchase of a designated emergency-response boat.

Currently, the Kittery Fire Department has use of the harbormaster’s boat, which docks at Pepperrell Cove, in the case of a water rescue or emergency. In return, the Fire Department stores the boat in winter. However, in the case of the recent rescue, a delay was caused when the keys to the harbormaster’s boat could not be located by fire department rescue personnel.

Officials are considering allocating upwards of $200,000 towards the purchase of a rescue boat.
