Lasers Might Fix Cape Cod Cormorant Problem
August 13, 2013
Handheld lasers are being considered as a possible solution to the problem of too many cormorants fouling the waters of Cedar Pond in Orleans, Massachusetts, according to an article on CapeCodOnline.com.
The droppings of the large population of cormorants attracted to the area have contributed to the pond’s poor health. But officials are considering a series of recommendations aimed at solving the problem. Among the recommendations being considered are deploying handheld lasers to get the cormorants off nearby power lines where up to 600 were counted one night last year.
