VT, NH, MA Contribute to LI Sound Pollution

CTPost: A recent column by Connecticut State Representative Larry Miller says several states not bordering Long Island Sound are major contributors to pollution in the Sound, and he called on those states to help clean it.

The public perception is that Connecticut and New York are the only states polluting Long Island Sound, writes Miller, a Republican who represents the 122nd Assembly District, which includes parts of Shelton and Stratford.

While Connecticut and New York are the main sources of pollution, he says, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and to a lesser degree Canada should also be held accountable for their discharges that end up in Long Island Sound. It is imperative that the federal Environmental Protection Agency be involved to resolve the pollution problems coming from the state’s northern neighbors that increase Connecticut’s costs to mitigate pollution in Long Island Sound.
