Long Island Town to Charge for Beach, Marina Parking
April 24, 2012
The Long Island town of Brookhaven recently approved a controversial fee for parking at town beaches and marinas, according to an article on northshoreoflongisland.com.
A two-year pass to park at town beaches and marinas will cost Brookhaven residents $25. According to town spokesman Jack Krieger, parking stickers will be required at beaches starting on May 28. Beginning May 12, the sticker will be required at marinas.
The Town Council vote on the fee was split 4-3 in favor of it. Opponents call the fee a backdoor tax, while supporters say it is necessary to keep town services intact.
