On March 2, a Massachusetts commercial fisherman was found guilty in Edgartown Court of illegal possession of 19 undersized tautog. The operator received a fine of $1,000.

The ruling stems from an incident that occurred on October 7, 2016, when Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers on a routine patrol boarded a commercial fishing vessel in the area of Vineyard Sound. Upon inspection, officers found the operator to be in possession of the undersized tautog and in possession of black sea bass during a closed season. The operator was issued a criminal citation and the gear was seized.
