A Fairhaven, Massachusetts man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Boston on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, to sending three false distress messages to the Coast Guard while claiming he was another Fairhaven resident on a sinking boat in the Cape Cod Canal, according to an article on CapeCodTimes.com.

Roger Martin, 47, also pleaded guilty to identity fraud in connection with the incidents in April and May 2015, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice. During each call, Martin impersonated another resident of Fairhaven and gave that resident’s name, address, and in one instance a date of birth, according to the statement.
