MA Unveils New Pipeline to Belchertown Fish Hatchery
June 29, 2016
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matt Beaton, Department of Fish & Game Commissioner George Peterson, Department of Energy Resources Commissioner Judith Judson, and Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) Executive Director Fred Laskey gathered on June 24 to celebrate the construction of a one-mile pipeline to the McLaughlin Fish Hatchery in Belchertown, MA.
The pipeline will convey about 6 million gallons of water each day from the Quabbin Reservoir, first to a new hydropower generator on the MWRA’s grounds then to the MassWildlife McLaughlin Fish Hatchery’s water-distribution system. The McLaughlin Hatchery produces about 225,000 pounds of trout annually, about 50% of the total state production across 5 hatcheries.
