Man Fined for Illegal Lobsters
March 10, 2011

Salem News: A Billerica man will pay $2,000 in fines after admitting yesterday to harvesting both immature and egg-carrying lobsters in Salem Harbor last fall.
Thong Le, 44, was charged with keeping 24 “short” lobsters — lobsters less than 3 1/4 inches long — and 15 lobsters carrying eggs after Environmental Police stopped his commercial fishing boat on the morning of Oct. 10 for an equipment violation, according to a report.
Many of the female lobsters were “V notched,” meaning that they had already been pulled from the water at some point and then marked by other lobstermen with a cutout V in their tail, denoting them as egg-bearing lobsters.
