Martha’s Vineyard Beach Closed After Drowning

CapeCodOnline: A beach in a popular conservation area on Martha’s Vineyard has been closed to swimming after an island visitor died of an apparent heart attack after being swept off a sandbar over the 4th of July weekend.

Michael Romm, 34, of Watertown, died near Norton Point Beach on Saturday, July 2, according to the Edgartown police.

Romm and an unidentified companion waded onto a sandbar then decided to swim in deeper water at one end, the police said. At about 2:00 p.m., he was swept farther out to sea by the strong current.
