A 39.2-pound lake trout caught on a Maine’s Richardson Lake in Oxford on July 2 has shattered the 62-year-old state record for the species. The fish was taken by Erik Poland or Andover, Maine, who apparently fought the huge fish for more than an hour and a half.

The trout was 44 inches long, had a girth of 28 inches, and weighed 39.2 pounds. It was more than eight pounds heavier than former state record, a 31.8-pound fish taken by Hollis Grindle on Beech Hill Pond in 1958.

Poland’s trout will be mounted, and it’s otolith bone given to biologists so that the trout’s age can be determined.
