July 6, 2012
Jones River Landing, Plimoth Plantation, and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation will host an exciting and educational day of activities on and near the water between Plymouth and Kingston, Massachusetts, on Saturday, July 7.
The Jones River Landing Independence Celebration is open to anyone interested in exploring the local history, landscape, or enjoying time on the water. The event will retrace the historic journey that was made from the Mayflower to Jones River Landing in a shallop.
The Shallop that will sail on July 7 is a replica of the 33’ sailing vessel brought over by the Pilgrims in the hold of the Mayflower in 1620. Take the opportunity to get an up-close look at a 17th century vessel by joining on the water or visiting it at the Landing.
Call now to reserve 1 of 6 rowing seats each way. This is an exciting opportunity to row this historic replica as well as support your local charities.
Anyone interested can take his or her own canoe or kayak and follow the shallop, which will leave Plymouth about 10:00 a.m. Estimated arrival time at Kingston Town Landing is Noon; ETA at the Jones River Landing at 1:00 p.m.
Throughout the day there will be activities for all ages at the Jones River Landing. From 1:00 p.m. on, individuals are welcome to join in the fun on the water guided river tours, shore side activities, live music and entertainment, and a informational ceremony recognizing the importance of this historic location.
