Merrimack Boaters Warned of Shoaling at The Bar
May 8, 2015
The Coast Guard has issued a formal message of caution to Merrimack River boaters this season, warning them that significant shoaling has occurred between R “2” and GC “3”, just outside the inlet jetties. Both buoys are located in the area known as “The Bar”, a well-known hazard that seems to have gotten worse over the winter.
In the coming weeks, the Coast Guard, Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Newburyport Harbormaster’s Office and the Coast Guard Auxiliary will step up safety patrols in the area.
