Name Sought for Rare Calico Lobster
February 3, 2014
The Save The Bay Exploration Center & Aquarium, located in Newport, Rhode Island, has received a rare calico lobster from a very generous local lobsterman. Out of the entire lobster population, it is estimated that calico lobsters are 1 out of every 30 million lobsters.
Through February 23, Save The Bay is asking the public to submit their ideas for the lobster’s name at the Exploration Center & Aquarium at Easton’s Beach (175 Memorial Blvd. in Newport). The center is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and daily during the February public school vacation (2/14-2/23).
Save The Bay will post the top 5 most popular names on Facebook and Twitter with a link to a survey. Everyone will have a chance to vote for their favorite of the 5 names and the winning entrant will receive a free 1-year family membership to Save The Bay.
