Nantucket Ferry to be Fitted with Antique Steam Whistle

Inquirer & Mirror: H. Flint Ranney, Nantucket’s representative on the Steamship Authority board of governors, today presented his Martha’s Vineyard counterpart Marc Hanover with an 1877 steam whistle similar to the one from the M/V Nobska installed on the M/V Eagle for use on the M/V Martha’s Vineyard.

After testing, Ranney said the whistle, which he purchased at an antiques store in Yarmouth and whose provenance is unknown, will be installed on the car ferry which travels between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard.
