Nantucket Scallop Season off to Good Start

Nantucket Inquirer & Mirror: While it’s only been a couple of days since the start of this year’s commercial scalloping season on Tuesday, initial reports indicate this year will be better than last, a year when scallops were scarce and it was taking fishermen nearly half the day to reach their five-bushel limit.

Yesterday [November 2], scallopers were getting $11 a pound for their catch, which were retailing for anywhere from $15 a pound at Souza’s Seafood to $18 per pound at Glidden’s Island Seafood and Sayle’s Seafood. Last year scallops opened at $11 a pound to fishermen and retailed the first week anywhere from $14 to $18.95 per pound.
