Navy to Conduct Torpedo Testing off Cape Cod

Nantucket Inquirer & Mirror: The U.S. Navy will be conducting torpedo testing off Cape Cod Wednesday through Friday [August 8-10, 2012], with a torpedo-retrieval vessel stationed near the mouth of Nantucket Harbor and a recovery helicopter at Nantucket Memorial Airport to assist in the operation, the Navy announced Monday.

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center and U.S. Navy Operational Test and Evaluation Force based out of Norfolk, Va. will be testing lightweight “exercise” torpedoes approximately 45 miles east of Cape Cod. The torpedoes will be launched from two MH-60R helicopters and one P-8A fixed-wing aircraft that will stage out of U.S Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.
