Southport Boats has introduced its new 272 TE (Tournament Edition) center console, a simpler version of its 27 CC that features a roomy “coffin box” in the bow instead of wraparound, upholstered bow seating; a simplified console, helm and leaning post; an improved transom live well; a lighter (but still strong) T-top; and a single Yamaha F300 instead of twin 250s.

The result is a significantly less-expensive boat that still rides on Southport’s sophisticated deep-V hull designed for 4-stroke power by C. Raymond Hunt Associates. The 272 also offer standard amenities like a standup head in the console, as well as Southport’s rock-solid composite construction.

This boat obviously adapts well to a wide range of New England fisheries, both inshore and offshore, but can also serve as a comfortable family boat.

Expect efficient cruise speeds of 25 to 30 knots with a top end of around 40 and a price that the manufacturer says will be substantially under $150,000.
