New Haven, CT, Dam to be Removed this Summer
April 23, 2014
The New Haven Independent reports that a dam built in the 1770s in New Haven, Connecticut, will be removed this summer (2014) so that river herring and other anadramous fish can more easily swim upstream to spawn.
The dam-removal project will remove about 100’ of dam, currently owned by the New Haven Land Trust. The work is expected to begin in July and cost about $550,000. The project will be funded by grants, largely from the U.S. Department of the Interior.
