“New” Orca Returns to Vineyard Waters for Shark Research

A wooden fishing boat similar to the models used in the movie “Jaws” is being restored on Martha’s Vineyard to be used a shark-research vessel.

The former lobster boat, to be renamed Orca III, is owned by Vineyard native David Bigelow, who is also leading the project.

Bigelow thinks the boat will be ready for sea trials by fall, and hopes to begin using it for shark research trips next spring. The conservation group Beneath The Waves will apparently use the boat on its expeditions.
