Cape Cod Times: More than 600 properties around Brewster [MA] ponds could be affected by proposed septic system regulations that will be discussed during a public meeting Saturday [Dec. 7] at Town Hall.

The sewage disposal regulations, which are in draft form, are meant to protect ponds from excess phosphorous and other nutrients. While most of Brewster’s 80 ponds are healthy, 17 have been declared impaired. Generally, this means there is a deficiency of oxygen because of excessive plant growth caused by too many nutrients acting as fertilizer in the pond, said Town Planner Sue Leven.
