New Service Removes Waterline Stains from Merrimack Boats

Newburyport, MA, college student Mason Johnson has launched a new service aimed at removing unsightly waterline stains from recreational boats that are docked and moored in the Merrimack River. Called The Waterline Wizard, the service is already being used at 6 marinas in Newburyport and Salisbury.

Using a small inflatable boat, Johnson and his partner remove the waterline stains and scum using a biodegradable marine soap. Average cleaning time is 30 to 45 minutes, and cost is $30 for boats up to 30’ (the price increases $10 for every additional 10’). Johnson offers a money-back guarantee on his work, but thus far customers have been very satisfied.

Johnson, a sophomore at Trinity College and an avid boater, is donating $5 for each boat cleaned to the Merrimack River Youth Boating Task Force. Part of the money raised will be also be distributed evenly to Merrowhake Nature School, Coastal Discoveries and Lowell’s Boat Shop. Further, Newburyport Marinas will match The Waterline Wizard’s donations to the 3 youth boating organizations.
