Norwalk Islands Trip Yields Lots of Loons

Great Northern Loon/Wikipedia. Loons, loons and more loons. That’s what we saw during a recent birdwatching boat trip out to the Norwalk Islands this week.

We saw greater sheer numbers of Long-tailed ducks, but based on our expectations and normal sightings, the number of loons we saw was extraordinary.

I headed out with Norwalk’s Larry Flynn on his boat “Hi-Wacker” on Tuesday afternoon when, following a morning of fog and light rain, the weather was clear, windless and warm (relatively anyway).
