Officials to Crack Down on Drunk Boating This Weekend
June 27, 2015
Boating-safety patrols throughout New England will be stepped up this weekend (June 27 – 28) as part of “Operation Dry Water”, a coordinated national crackdown on Boating Under the Influence (BUI). Operation Dry Water is aimed at reducing the number of alcohol- and drug-related accidents and fatalities, and making recreational boaters aware of the dangers of alcohol and drug use on the water.
During the campaign, state boating-enforcement officials and the Coast Guard will be on the lookout for boat operators whose blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeds legal limits.
Alcohol use is the leading contributing factor in recreational boating deaths.
