Old Lyme Police Boat Returns to Service

LymeLine.com: On Wednesday, July 20, at around 3:30 p.m., Old Lyme Emergency Services were dispatched to Long Island Sound, just off the Gorton Avenue shore for a report of 2 teens aboard a small raft being swept out to sea.

While land-based fire and Emergency Management Service units responded to the beach of Gorton Ave, Old Lyme Police Officers Tom Heinssen and Bill Flanagan responded to the scene with the newly-resurrected Old Lyme Police/Emergency Services boat, which was docked at the Department of Envirnmental Protection headquarters on Ferry Rd., Old Lyme.

Heinssen and Flanagan effected the rescue and brought the youths back to shore.
