One Rescued, Three Missing After Scalloper Sinks off Martha’s Vineyard

A New Bedford-based scalloper, the Ryan Noel, sank in rough seas on Sunday, Nov. 24, some 24 nautical miles southwest of Martha’s Vineyard.

After receiving a distress call at around 3:15 p.m., the Coast Guard dispatched rescue crews to the scene. Rescuers were able to recover one crewman in a life raft, and were still searching for three others as of Monday morning.

Two ships and a helicopter were searching for the missing fishermen.
