Outdoor Writer, Advocate Art Glowka Dies
March 27, 2013
Stamford Advocate: Arthur Glowka, a longtime Stamford [Connecticut] resident, avid fisherman and fierce advocate for Long Island Sound, died Monday [March 25] at Stamford Hospital after a long illness. He was 82.
Glowka, chairman of Stamford’s Shellfish Commission, battled to protect the clams, lobsters and other species that lived in the waters off Stamford’s shore. He took detailed minutes of the commission’s meetings by hand and appeared regularly before the Stamford Water Pollution Control Authority, Connecticut South Western Regional Planning Agency and Environmental Protection Agency to question and criticize their water regulations.
