Parker River, MA, Dam Removal Nixed

Newburyport News: The town’s selectmen have decided not to demolish the crumbling Larkin Mill Dam, siding with public safety officials who thought the old dam could play a crucial role if a highway accident causes a spill into the Parker River.
Concerns about the dam included it crumbling in sections with the potential for complete failure, as well as its impassability for fish. Additionally, a historic mill building on the property has fallen into disrepair and continues to be a nuisance.
