PCB Levels Unlikely to Affect Dredging of Wethersfield Cove, CT

Hartford Courant: A finding of high levels of mercury in the sediments of Wethersfield Cove [in Connecticut] is unlikely to affect plans to dredge the boat channel, a senior scientist with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said Friday.
Traci Iott, DEEP supervising environmental analyst, said technology exists to allow the capture of contaminated sediments during the process. “I don’t see mercury prohibiting dredging, provided the right technology is used,” Iott said.
